Götz Winery Cellar – A Hidden Gem of Tokaj Tradition in Hercegkút

Tucked into the rolling hills of northeastern Hungary, the Götz Winery Cellar in Hercegkút offers a quiet yet unforgettable glimpse into the soul of the Tokaj wine region. Set among the iconic Gombos-hegy cellars, a hillside of fairytale-like, grass-roofed wine entrances carved into volcanic tufa, this family-run winery has become a symbol of heritage, craftsmanship, and hospitality. The Götz family has been producing wine for generations, specialising in Tokaj’s famed aszú dessert wines as well as crisp furmint and hárslevelű. The cellar itself, cool and quiet, winds underground with barrels ageing in centuries-old peace. A visit here is not just about tasting wine, it’s about understanding how tradition, terroir, and time come together beneath the earth.
